ABOUT US
he Weathering Man, as it was to be known, was            founded on the First of January, 2007. The business originally was concieved as a custom painting business, with weathering being an optional extra, but this soon reversed. Since early 2007, weathering buildings, rolling stock, vehicles has been the primary focus of The Weathering Man, hence the change in name from Proto Paint West in mid-2007.

Since then our business has weathered over 500 pieces of rolling stock and nearly 100 locomotives for clients in North America, Europe and Australia. In addition to weathered rolling stock, we have branched out into the business of kit construction and scratchbuilding. We have built over 50 buildings of various complexity and scale for private and commercial clients.

In late 2008 we premeired a unique revival of the classic Model Die Casting Boxcab Locomotive, which is completely custom built right here in our shops. Each one is tailored to the desires of the individual client, which is unheard of in the commercial modeling world.

Our mission is to provide meticulously researched, accurate models that not only reflect their full scale counterparts, but look so convincingly real as to be mistaken for them in photographs, and all at an affordable price.
Interacting with Miniature Railroading is a companion weblog where employees of "The Weathering Man" write about various topics. It's main intent is to educate the modeling public about some aspect of model railroading or railroad history that people have either been in a quandry about or didn't know existed in the first place.

We aim to illuminate some of the more obscure, but important aspects of railroad modeling and introduce them to your consciousness. Such technical topics as these must be told with a hint of humor, and that's what we also bring to the table. From learning how to scratchbuild a building using satelite photos to properly adding a body of water to your layout to even shedding light on a hobby manufacturer or actual technical aspect of railroading, you'll find it when we interact with miniature railroading.
Working closely with our clients by frequent communication is the main strength of The Weathering Man. We offer suggestions to improve on the model comissioned and add our expertise into each project undertaken. Photographs and a willingness to alter a project to fit your changing needs adds flexibility to an already helpful modeling staff. With a frank opinion about the technical, artistic, and bugetary aspects of each project we work with you to clarify your desire for a complete and beautifu model.

Let us be your choice for projects in any scale, any complexity and any budget.
